Motivation and Discipline.

Two crucial and polar concepts.

Both are necessary for anyone who wants to implement change and develop new habits within their life.

So, what is the difference?

Motivation is the fleeting and short-term momentary push of emotion that surges within you and compels action before you are about to tackle a task that you don’t necessarily want to address.

It is crucial but unreliable and deceitful.

You cannot always rely on your motivation to be there when you want to go to the gym or get out of bed; motivation is contingent upon your mood and emotions and mind state.

So then how do we turn this capricious and transient emotion into a reliable constant in our lives?

Discipline.

Discipline is the answer to all your problems.

I define discipline as a car rolling down a hill. The car needs no engine, driver or petrol; the gentle decline of the slope and gravity is forcing the vehicle into motion.

Using this analogy, it then becomes a simple question of what drives us?

What is the force that propels us down the hill? (I am not comparing life to a gentle decline of a hill by saying this, life is quite the opposite.)

Why should we even bother waking up in the morning?

What for?

Well, let me ask you this: Are you pleased with your life and current state?

Are you happy with the relationships you hold with the ones you love?

Are you satisfied with the cleanliness of your home? I can go on. You get the picture.

If you honestly answered “yes” to all these questions, then let me say: Good on you.

Reach out to me and talk to me about what you have done in your life to achieve this level of satisfaction—moving on to us “normal” folks.

You might be satisfied with a good portion of your life, and that is amazing.

But do you not want to strive to be more?

Do you not want to be the best possible version of yourself?

Do you not want to achieve your goals?

Paint that picture, author that book, learn that instrument, start that drop shipping business? Do you?

OK, good.

Make that the reason you get up in the morning.

It does not matter what time you wake up in the morning in the beginning.

What matters is getting out of bed when you do wake up and refusing to stay in bed for a prolonged period.

Get out of bed and make it.

Then do that the next day, and the next.

Start with that.

Then watch as you see changes happen and they happen fast.
